Founded in 1923 in St. Paul, Minnesota, as Economics Laboratory, Ecolab was renamed in 1986 and later merged with Nalco Holding in 2011. Its global headquarters remains in St. Paul, Minnesota.


Today, Ecolab is a market leader in water treatment, cleaning and sanitation, and infection prevention services for industries such as hospitality, food & beverage, healthcare, manufacturing, and chemicals. It operates in 160+ countries, with approximately 48,000 employees as of 2024, and generated $15.7 billion USD in revenue that year.
