Founded in 1984 by Dietrich Mateschitz (Austrian) and Chaleo Yoovidhya (Thai), Red Bull was inspired by the Thai energy drink Krating Daeng. Mateschitz adjusted its formula—carbonating it and moderating sweetness—to suit Western tastes, then launched Red Bull Energy Drink in Austria on April 1, 1987, effectively creating the global energy drink category.
Since its launch, Red Bull has scaled into a global powerhouse, selling over 12.6 billion cans in 2024 alone and reaching €11.227 billion in revenue—up 6.4% year-over-year, By end‑2024, the company employed approximately 19,973 people, and its drinks were sold in 178 countries
